Why Being Present Matters
May 16, 2026Your student’s unique voice is a vital part of our body, and their presence enriches the experience for every other student in the room.
In recent weeks, conversations with a family member and a couple of school families have sparked a meaningful reflection on the nature of learning. A common observation is that when a child misses school, the "absentee worksheets" are often completed at home in a mere fraction of the school day. This leads to a natural question: if the academic "output" can be finished so quickly, what is the value of the remaining hours of school? As a Christian school, we believe the answer lies in the distinction between completing a task and engaging in formation as a biblical thinker. While an assignment is a helpful tool for practice, it is merely the "footprint" of a lesson—it tells you where the class has been, but it cannot replicate the journey taken to get there.
We recognize and honor that you, as parents, hold the primary God-given right and responsibility to educate and disciple your children (Deuteronomy 6:6-7). Our role is not to replace your influence, but to serve as a faithful extension of your home. By enrolling your child in our school, you have invited us to partner with you in their development. To enjoy the full fruit of this program, however, faithful attendance is essential. From K-12, the true "work" happens in the invisible spaces of interactive engagement. These collaborative moments of intellectual and spiritual growth are non-transferable and not captured in a packet of papers.
Furthermore, much of our most impactful curriculum—personally designed lessons, hands-on labs, collaborative projects, and spontaneous spiritual mentoring—cannot be sent home in a folder or posted to a portal. Our staff has observed that when students miss these shared "Aha!" moments, they often feel disengaged or discouraged. This isn't due to a lack of ability, but a lack of connection to the vibrant life of the classroom. In this environment, school serves as a training ground for character. Virtues like patience, diligence, and biblical submission to authority are forged in the daily interactions of a community—skills that remain unpracticed on a solitary worksheet.
Our desire is to be your most trusted co-laborers, ensuring your child does more than just "check boxes." We provide absentee work as a temporary bridge during illness, but it is not a substitute for the rich, relational instruction that happens within these walls. Your student’s unique voice is a vital part of our body, and their presence enriches the experience for every other student in the room. We thank you for the privilege of partnering with you to ensure your children are not just finishing assignments, but are truly growing in wisdom, knowledge, and understanding.
