Summer is a time for rest and fun, but it can also be an opportunity for growth in character, faith, and intellect.
As summer approaches, I encourage you to guide your children in making wise and intentional choices during the break. Summer is a time for rest and fun, but it can also be an opportunity for growth in character, faith, and intellect. Be sure to set time aside for daily Bible reading and reflection. For your students, this might involve reading a Psalm together each morning or discussing a Bible passage over dinner. These simple routines can help strengthen your child or teen's walk with Christ and can build habits that last a lifetime. Remind them that even in the slower pace of summer, God is always at work in hearts and lives.
In addition to spiritual growth, stimulate your children and teen’s minds to be active and curious. Support them in continuing their academic journey by exploring good books, practicing challenging math skills, and encouraging journaling or writing. Whether through science experiments, creative projects, learning a new skill, or going for a hike, make the best use of every day. With a little structure and encouragement, summer can be a season of joy, rest, refreshment, and growth.
Every fall, we find that many students return having experienced summer learning loss. Students work hard during the school year and then lose the benefits of their learning by not maintaining their minds, bodies, and hearts in a state of meaningful growth. Whether your student is in high school, junior high, or elementary school, please use the summer safely and wisely. Let’s encourage our students to return in the fall refreshed and ready to learn.
Have a wonderful summer!
